Background Information

EIRMA has offered a website for its members and the public since 1998. We began, like everyone else, with a static site that was designed to let people know of our existence and how to contact us. Gradually, the site grew, adding with information on forthcoming and past activities, until it became clear that this approach was no longer sustainable. It had become too difficult to keep existing contents up-to-date, and essentially impossible to add new features. Adding and changing content required dedicated effort by specialist staff, instead of allowing everyone to contribute. So in 2002, we switched to a dynamic website based around a commercial bulletin board product, vBulletin.

For the 45th Anniversary of the Association we have decided to have a new website using Drupal open source content management sytem.

The new "look and feel" includes more user-friendly ergonomics, an intuitive navigability and it will allow easier and more dynamic interactions.

While retaining the logo and colors of EIRMA, the architecture of the website, positioning of information and highlighting of the essentials has been restructured.
You can easily access areas of main interest like "EIRMA events" with on-line registration, "EIRMA announcements" or "Membership Benefits".
We have reinforced the searching functionality by using the open source search engine Apache Solr.

Our objectives are the same as in the past website, ie we aim to provide a website that:

    * Informs people about what we do and the services we offer
    * Provides members with full information on current and planned activities
    * Provides members with a easy-to-access library of reports and information on past activities
    * Reviews the main trends in industrial R&D and innovation management, and the environments in which this work takes place
    * Explains the public outreach activities that we undertake
    * Is easy to use and easy to maintain.
