Annual Conference 2012

16.05.2012

Since the discovery of fire, individuals and societies have been faced with difficult decisions about the benefits and risks that Technology offers. Today the daily life of individuals and societies around the globe are shaped and maintained by a myriad of technologies built on an ever expanding base of scientific knowledge.

EIRMA Annual Conference 2012

24 and 25 May 2012 in Istanbul, Turkey

The Annual Conference provides an unparalleled opportunity for networking and cross-fertilising ideas and experiences between different industrial sectors, which is what makes EIRMA unique.

Detailed Programme & Registration form available below

Building Bridges between Civil Society, Science & Technology and Industry

Improving the Understanding and Engagement of the Public in Science and Industry

Individuals and groups of individuals have perceptions and expectations for the role of technology in their lives, now and for the future. Equally they have expectations about the responsibilities and behaviours of providers, regulators and communicators of science and technology.

Bosphorus Bridge

Organisations find themselves in a complex web of stakeholders including consumer groups, governments, companies, NGOs, scientists, the media and lobbyists.

Finding an effective way to create a productive dialogue between the stakeholders is critical if society is to continue to benefit from emerging science and technology and its embodiment in new products and new services.

Issues addressed

  • Expectations of the various stakeholders with regard to emerging technologies
  • Significance of the Media, both traditional and new as a crucial component in the influencing of public opinions
  • Objectives of NGOs and their importance in the stakeholder landscape
  • Emergence of policy and regulation from the deliberative processes involving politicians, the public and industry
  • Winning and losing the trust of the Public
  • Particularities of Turkey: how is the science acceptance by the public? What kind of cooperation and partnership does the civic society has with Turkish industry?

Target Audience

The Conference is intended for people working at senior and middle levels of management, within corporate and business functions that are responsible for research, technology and product development.

We also encourage senior delegates to come along with talented junior managers.

The audience will include a broad cross-section of the European research and business community.

Chairman

Dr. Léopold Demiddeleer, Future Businesses Director, Solvay and President of EIRMA
