Co-operation in the Organisations: KM acting as a Real Estate Agent
Summary
In the past every department had its own responsibilities and sometimes operated as a "silo". More and more close cooperation is required within many companies not just in one factory at the same location but also at locations in different cities, countries, and continents. With the required shorter supply times and shorter times to market, it is essential that companies and departments work together to meet the deadlines, to stay ahead of the competition.
The tools and technology are helping in knowledge sharing but will not solve the challenges on their own. Understanding human factor and behaviour is of crucial importance in KM. How do people from different part of the world work together? Which social competences are required in order to excel in this new global context? What is the human reaction and solution in facing information overflow or other challenges in knowledge sharing?
Geographical and organisational culture is a strong factor of influence and language differences create day-to-day challenges in the global working environment.
In the organisations there may be huge cultural differences between different departments and disciplines. It is very much about how we work together between KM/HR/IT/IM/Business Improvement/Change management groups in our organizations to really achieve and embed KM into everything we do.
Issues addressed
• Explore how do companies combine competencies and gather and exchange information and knowledge in a multidisciplinary, multicultural team, which has to deliver results in a certain business aspect or area;
• Discuss ways in building “Trust” between people and departments locally and globally;
• Find ways in understanding human behavior and the factors that facilitate human co-operation.

This meeting is targeting people from R&D Knowledge Management, Knowledge Management of Operations and Business Units as well as Managers and Team Leaders in a position to apply best knowledge management practices and initiatives in their organizations.
