Some of the best ideas were born in garages (computers, electric cars, rock bands…).

The Hewlett-Packard Garage in Palo Alto, California is indeed the birthplace of Silicon Valley. After the lone inventor like the Wright brothers (first era of innovation), the innovation creators of the corporate labs (like the U2 spy plane during the second innovation era) and theVenture Capital backed start-ups like Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg in the third era, we are now in the fourth when corporate catalysts can have an impact.

We shift from a knowledge-based economy to a creative economy. Manylarge companies who want to take the next innovation step have set up aninternal ‘garage’.

While these garages are equipped with amazingly powerful tools, thecorporate environment does not necessarily facilitate the creative magic. Intrapreneurs work in large companies with the freedom and financial support to create and turn an idea into a profitable finished product with access to resources that small companies can only dream of. How do companies ensure that those resources deliver valuable innovations?

Issues addressed

  • Different approaches to the Corporate Garage model used in different industries
Impact of intrapreneurship on managing Research and Innovation
Techniques to nurture and stimulate creative people in this new ecosystem
Challenges when you foster agility and entrepreneurial spirit in a large company
Integration of this new structure and its impact on the companybusiness strategy and corporate culture
Innovation from outside: turning competition, crowd-sourced innovation and capital venture results into attractive opportunities

Target Audience:

Senior R&D Directors and Managers, Innovation and Technology Managers, R&D Strategic Analysts, Financial managers and Internal Communications in R&D.
We encourage Representatives to come along with Leaders from their Business Units.

Carlos Härtel, EIRMA President, CEO, GE Germany & Austria and Director GE Global Research Europe
