SIG-III: Are you Smart Enough to Find your Way in the Cloud?

02.04.2012

Since 1999 the Special Interest Group explores how to instil a climate of knowledge sharing, how to facilitate this sharing through the use of appropriate IT tools and by coaching; and how to function effectively at Corporate as well as at Business or Service unit level.

“Are you smart enough to find your way in the cloud?”

How Knowledge Management is responding to the challenges

SIG-III Meeting on 29 & 30 March 2012 in Paris, France

Summary

In the past years many knowledge systems have been upgraded in user friendliness as well as in functionality. For example the use of Microsoft SharePoint is advancing in many companies and the advancement of Social Media is just another example of this.

Issues addressed

We address a few of the systems issues that might be a topic in today’s businesses. Some of the issues below will be discussed each time with the eye on: “what can the IT systems do to help?” especially since many IT systems have developed in a similar way that the Social Media have developed in the past five years.

  • Knowledge Management

How can we move people towards making use of the newer knowledge systems?

  • How to put systems to make them usable for everybody?
  • From “Shield, unless”, towards “Share, unless”, how to still keep IP issues safe guarded?
  • How do we approach the “generation gap”?
  • What is the “Cloud”? Advantages, Disadvantages?
  • IP rights protection, data protection and process: How to manage confidentiality to the system?
  • How to engage with staff to rule the use and sharing of information? Privacy: identified or anonymous usage?

Target Audience

People from R&D Knowledge Management, Knowledge Management of Operations and Business Units as well as Managers and Team Leaders in a position to apply best knowledge management practices and initiatives in their organisations.

Chairman

John Otten, Head Knowledge & Library Services Dep, Tata Steel Group
