OECD Symposium on Global Open Innovation Networks – 23 January, Paris

This symposium in Paris will examine the phenomenon of global open innovation from the perspective of France and Europe.
The workshop will assess the international variations in open innovation practices. It is important to take such variations into account in order to understand the diffusion of open innovation practices, and which policies will help fulfil the promise of open innovation.

Roadmapping Learning Group – 12 - 13 February, near Paris

The purpose of this meeting is to learn how to map out the technology and resources necessary to develop new products, processes or services. This first of two sessions provides a balanced mix of tutoring, case studies and mutual learning in interactive sessions and discussions, provides practical training in Roadmapping for R&D and for new businesses or start-ups. A second session, on 10 and 11 September 2009, will focus on progress and problems in Roadmapping experienced since the first meeting.

Selling R&D and New Product Development - Effective Marketing within the Company – 19-20 February, St Paul de Vence

This meeting will explore how companies handle the valorisation of their R&D, establish value and strategic potential for new activities and new product development, and then market the benefits of these activities to key corporate customers.  It will enable participants to assess alternative ways of getting support from various business functions, and of communicating R&D objectives with senior management. The meeting will also provide an opportunity for informal discussion of the perspectives for company R&D in the aftermath of the global financial crisis.

Financial Control of R&D – 13 March 2009, Paris

Financial control of R&D is becoming more complex and some companies use sophisticated models to help. This Round Table provides an opportunity for frank discussions about financial control practices used in R&D and the acceptance of these practices. It will also provide a from forum for discussing the models used. These include: the funding model (internal funds from BUs or from corporate); income alternatives (fixed charges versus hourly rates); cost base versus mark-up on third parties; funding for investments; efficiency control (chargeable hours versus internal hours); measurement of KPIs etc.

Customer Behaviour and Involvement in Innovation – 4-5 December, Bad Homburg

The environment for business, for R&D, and for customers is about to change dramatically, because of demographic and climate changes, energy constraints, and technological developments. Foreseeing these developments will be crucial. Customers should be directly involved in the innovation process as a partner.
It should be a two-way avenue: providing intelligent information and insights for innovating in the right direction, caring for quality as customer perception. This Round Table explored how the whole process is best facilitated.

Knowledge Management has considerably evolved during recent years. Today, we have realised that sharing of information works well only when people feel comfortable in trusted social networks. These networks sometimes function even better when they are extended networks, reaching beyond company boundaries. The meeting also presented how advanced searching, such as semantic search, can help the R&D community in an organisation to become more effective.

On-shoring versus off-shoring – 16-17 October, Paris

This Round Table explored the potential for Europe to attract foreign R&D investment originating from the emerging economies such as India, China, Korea, Latin America, etc.  American and Japanese companies already invest in R&D in Europe and this investment has become an integral part of European economies and innovation. There is reason to believe that the emerging economies will also benefit from market proximity by investing locally in the markets they serve outside their own markets.  How can we promote such investments and take advantage of the opportunities offered?
