How to deploy an understanding of individual and organisational innovation

05.10.2011

SIG-V meeting, Thursday 17 February 2011, Paris

Summary

This Special Interest Group (SIG-V) is dedicated to exploring the human (f)actor in innovation. Despite the development of ever more refined management processes, many organisations find it extremely difficult to make a significant change in their innovation capability.
Where in the organisation are the bottlenecks and barriers that hinder innovation from happening? Do they reside with People rather than Processes? What opportunities does this present?

This second meeting will be a first step to explore some tools and models which will help to get better use of the Human (F)actor in Innovation.

Issues addressed

• Scope out how the existing knowledge of human and organisational psychologies could be applied to innovation management;
• Identify the emotional and behavioural elements that are critical for successful innovation in organisations and locate the best tools for their assessment;
• Explore the issues of passion, power, and motivation;
• Discuss how to fuse organisational and individual values, beliefs, and models to contribute to an enhancement of innovation;
• Debate how to manage a “real” behaviour change in the organization;
• Build a portfolio of new tools for innovation managers that address the human (f)actors.

Target Audience

The objective of the Special Interest Group is to gather together R&D and Innovation experts, managers and directors who wish to share and work on these challenges on a more regular or continuous basis, typically 2 meetings per year and informal teleconferencing when necessary.
This second meeting will work on one of the themes that emerged from the discussions amongst the participants at the inaugural meeting in October 2010.

Chairman
