Introduction

A range of add-on Extras have been written to meet special requests from users and to test new features. Each is contained in a subdirectory of the /release//extras directory in the zip file, with an accompanying readme.txt file that explains how to install and use each extra. Popular/useful Extras are often incorporated into the main product in a subsequent release.

Installing an Extra

Read the accompanying "readme.txt" file in the Extra's directory.

Generally, each Extra consists of an xml file containing vBulletin plugins, and sometimes additional code files. Extras are normally installed via vBulletin->admincp->Products and Plugins->Download and Upload Plugins. The plugins form part of the "Links and Downloads Manager Extras" product. As a result, any installed extras will be retained when you upgrade LDM, but this creates an obligation on the site administrator to check the LDM->Admin->Plugins page for warnings concerning out-of-date extras. This page also provides a way to selectively activate, deactivate or delete all plugins associated with a given extra.

(Up to version 2.2.9, the plugins were part of the "Links and Download Manager" product, which meant (for reasons internal to vBulletin) that they were automatically deleted and had to be reinstalled each time you upgraded to a new version of LDM.)

If the "Links and Downloads Manager Extras" product itself is uninstalled, then all extras will also be uninstalled. Similarly, if it is disabled, the LDM extras will be disabled. (There are a few exceptions to these statements, because not all extras work as vBulletin plugins.)

Configuration Settings

Many extras have their own configuration settings. In general, these will appear at the end of the main LDM admin/settings page, although in a few cases, explained in the extra's readme.txt file, it is necessary to edit the extra before installing it.

Setting values are retained during upgrades, and also if you temporarily uninstall or disable the extra.

Settings can be restored to their default values by selecting the "Reinitialise 'extra' settings" checkbox on the LDM->admin->settings page and submitting the form.
