By default, new categories and entries are visible to all authorised users as soon as they are created (or at their indicated submission time if the setting links_expiry_days has been enabled). By enabling the moderate_links setting, entries and categories are submitted for moderation before being made generally visible. (Entries and categories are always visible to the submitting user, moderators and administrators. Entries and categories submitted by moderators and administrators do not require moderation.)
Use the Moderate command on the main toolbar to enter the moderation pages. Moderators can accept, delete and (if they also have can_edit_links permission) edit the entries.
Since entries can be assigned to multiple categories, moderators see the new entry listed separately for each of its categories, but only need to accept/deny the entry once.
Who can Moderate within LDM?
Moderators are defined in two ways:
The LDM->Admin->Permissions, LDM->Admin->Settings and Add/Edit Categories pages control which users and usergroups can moderate LDM entries and categories:
- Members of usergroups who have been given LDM can_moderate_links permission, and
- Specific users identified in the moderate_usernames setting
Since the permission and setting can be set globally on the relevant LDM->Admin page and also on a per-category basis using the Add/Edit Category page, you have the possibility to define different moderators for different parts of your LDM database. Permissions and settings are inherited in the normal way within the category tree.
In addition, users who are authorised as moderators of a vBulletin forum can moderate:
- all LDM categories associated with that forum and
- all entries in these categories, regardless of the forums associated with the entries
Email Notification
When the moderate_email_submit setting is enabled, relevant moderators receive emails informing them when new entries are submitted for moderation.
When the moderate_email_accept setting is enabled, the submitting user receives an email when the entry is accepted or declined by a moderator.
Remoderation
Once moderated, entries and categories will become visible to all authorised users and remain visible indefinitely. Normally, no further moderation is required, even if the entry is subsequently edited to point to a new file or link. However, if a periodic review frequency has been defined (LDM->Admin->Setting link_review_freq) when an entry was created/edited, the entry requires regular re-moderation, although it will not disappear from general view after it is first accepted.
