RESAVER – Pension across borders

Webinar - 20 March 2019 12.30 - 14:00

The topic

The mobility of researchers is a driver of scientific excellence and a cornerstone of the European Research Area. However, pension can be an obstacle to researchers’ mobility. In fact, researchers often risk losing their supplementary pension rights when moving between countries.

This problem is coupled with the changes in the pension landscape. Predominantly caused by a significant change in the demographic, state pensions (also referred to as the first pillar), will not be sufficient to provide adequate retirement income. Occupational pensions (second pillar) and private pensions (third pillar) will have to compensate this gap.

Therefore, to safeguard the pension rights and to foster the mobility of researchers, the Commission supported the creation of RESAVER, the first multi-country multi-employer pension fund especially designed for research performing organisations.

The speaker

Slaven Misljencevic, Policy Officer, European Commission, DG Research & Innovation
